Having just returned from Quepos/Manuel Antonio (Pacific Coast resort area) to my home in the Central Valley I must say your ideas are on-target here. It’s easy to go enjoy the beach things any time I want, but the heat would be intolerable on an ongoing basis.

The convenience of being able to drive for two hours (or fly for 20 minutes!) and be at the beach is good enough for me. I love sleeping with the windows open and the cool, fresh mountain air flowing through my house. That would not be an option if I lived near the coast.

Altitude is everything when it comes to climate comfort. There are days when I use my air conditioning even here, although they are few. Down by the ocean I would need it 24/7. That would also result in higher power costs and a smaller financial advantage to living here.
