FAQ
Attorneys, Doctors, & Dentists
The only bad experience we have had with these 3 professional categories was the attorney we initially used for purchasing our first piece of land in Grecia. He spoke a little English and came recommended by the realtor that was selling us the land. He was very unprofessional, making us wait for an hour or more was not uncommon for him, and his dress attire included a khaki shirt with the top three buttons unbuttoned. He was also very slow and unresponsive. Other than this, he was perfect!
As in the states, it is recommended that you seek an attorney who specializes in the specific needs that you have. You wouldn’t go to a criminal attorney to form a corporation, or a traffic ticket attorney to handle an adoption. It is the same situation here in Costa Rica. We have a recommended attorney for residency, for the formation of corporations, and so forth. The sale of land, homes, or lots requires the careful attention of the most watchful eyes available, and we believe we have the best recommendation for all these needs. And they won’t come in an hour late in a khaki shirt, half unbuttoned.
And the best way to locate an attorney for your needs is to seek the advice of expats whom you trust and those who have actually used the services of their recommendation. At CostaRicaLandToday.Com, we give this information out freely and willingly, and, of course, without a profit motive.
Doctors, again like attorneys, are also just as specialized as they are in the States, or for General Practices, there is a number of highly qualified physicians right here in Grecia, and yes, they speak English. In fact, ours lives here in El Cajon and he gladly gives out his home phone number and calls routinely after a visit to check up on you. How often does this happen in the States? Check how many physicians’ home phone numbers you currently have and chances are it probably won’t be lots of numbers that you have. Most of the specialists received their training in the States.
My wife and I both have had some fairly serious dental problems since we have been here, and the professionalism, talent, treatment, and low pricing are nothing short of amazing. I had to seek some prosthodontic work, and through referrals, I found an office here in Grecia that has 3 dentists, 2 brothers and a sister, all having received their training at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas, and yes, again they all speak English, and they all have different specialties. So whatever your dental needs are, feel very confident they can be managed here in Grecia at prices you would not believe.
Cheryl, my wife, had a root canal and the professionalism was quite astounding. The dentist and his assistant worked 2 ½ hours straight, with no chair hopping as they do in the States. He invited me in to be with her, which was very different, but it allowed me to see a very professional, refined procedure with hygiene practices exceeding what I have seen up north. Oh yea, the root canal cost $250! I don’t know pricing where you are, but in Dallas, the same procedure starts at $1600.
